The TRIP system was developed at the LCE (Laboratory for Communications Engineering), University of Cambridge, by Dr. Diego López de Ipiña, in the period between October 1998 and December 2001. The design of both the tags and the image processing and computer vision algorithm used in TRIP were extensively documented in his PhD dissertation "Visual Sensing and Middleware Support for Sentient Computing". Joe Newman and Paulo Mendonça were earlier contributors to this system. The MobileEye application was created for the Feria MobilForum conference organised by Telefónica Móviles España, in December 2003. The authors were Iñaki Vázquez and Dr. Diego López de Ipiña. The MobileSense system was created for JANT 2004 by Dr. Diego López de Ipiña. Those works were sponsored by the Cátedra de Telefónica Móviles at the University of Deusto.
