City4Age: Elderly-friendly City services for active and healthy ageing

Duration: 2015-2018
Supported by: Advancing active and healthy ageing with ICT: Early risk detection and intervention (PHC-21-2015) - Research Executive Agency (European Commission)
Funding: 125.000 € (2016), 125.000 € (2017), 62.500 € (2018). Total: , 312.500 €
Principal researcher: Dr. Diego López de Ipiña
Consortium members:

City4Age will activate urban Communities to facilitate the role of social/health services and of families in dealing with mild cognitive impairments and frailty in the elderly population. The challenge is to demonstrate that Cities play a pivotal role in the unobtrusive collection of “more data” on individual behaviours, and with “increased frequency”. This can then greatly improve the early detection of risks through the timely analysis of changes in these behaviours and, finally, the design of effective interventions for countering these risks.

The idea is to create a new ITC-based tourism product that situates Basque technology-based firms in a strategically advantageous position within the tourism sector. The development of this product will be based on knowledge transfer from members of the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network to companies working in the sector.

DomoRIA: Domotic Rich Internet Applications

Duration: 2010
Supported by: Plan +Euskadi09 (UE09+69) - Proyectos de Investigación e Innovación Tecnológica, Departamento de Educación, Universidades e Investigación del Gobierno Vasco
Funding: 51.320 €
Project Manager: Dr. Diego López de Ipiña
Consortium members: DINITEL S.L

The DomoRIA (Domotic Rich Internet Applications) project defines a Web 2.0 platform to abstract and control the devices in a home automation deployment by means of a set of web gadgets integrated in a central control dashboard accessible and adaptable to the physical features of the target client (mobile or fixed). The main goals of the project are:

  • Create a new platform based on RIA and web technologies to universally control the devices at a house.
  • Adapt the control interfaces to the physical features of the devices used by the user following the approach “write an interface once and show it in different devices respecting its appearance and use”.
  • Guarantee the extensibility of the control platform, allowing the new integration of devices following the approach Plug-and-play (PnP).
  • Integrate the control platform which generates RIA interfaces for browsers in devices connected to Internet and mediates with the underlying home automation installation and its protocols. Such platform has to be inserted in small low powered embedded devices.
