Guidelines for Linguistic Software Development

GLOSIX Version 0

Jean Véronis, CNRS, Coordinator

Abstract

This document is a first sketch of the MULTEXT/EAGLES Guidelines for Linguistic Software Development. These guidelines will specify a General Lingware Open System Environment (GLOSIX), including recommended standards for all aspects of linguistic software development, data representation, linguistic annotation, etc. The establishment of such a set of guidelines will enable the interchange of tools and data among researchers and sites, compatibility among tools with potentially diverse functionality, and will in general contribute to the creation of reliable, portable, high quality linguistic tools.
