This is an updated version of a list of translation-related software first published in Germany in: Mitteilungsblatt for Dolmetscher und Uebersetzer MDUe 40(1994), Heft 3, pp 3-11. It includes, in alphabetical order, software products which are more or less relevant to translators and interpreters.

The list provides brief product descriptions, addresses of distributors, and prices where available. It does not comment on the quality of products. Efforts have been made to make the list both comprehensive and correct. However, being compiled in Germany, the list may focus on the products available here, and some information, such as product features, phone numbers, prices, are notoriously short-lived and subject to frequent changes.

This is especially true in the field of electronic reference on CD-ROM. The list includes such products, but many more are listed in special catalogues, such as the "Media News" by KNO-K&W-GW, a dealer brochure ("Sortimenter Info") which is available to book merchants in Germany, and in the cd-rom directory by tfpl publishing, a CD-ROM with full details on 8000 CD-ROM and multimedia titles worldwide, updated on CD-ROm every 6 months and available from: Interactive Media Publications Ltd., 104A St John Street, London EC1M 4EG, UK, Fax: +44 0 171 490 4706; price: 85 UK Pounds.

Therefore, check with your local book store if you are looking for something specific, such as a medical dictionary or foreign-language tutorials on CD-ROM or diskettes.

NOTE: The No. 16 issue of Terminometro (October 1994) includes a detailed overview of about 80 terminology management programs, some of which are not yet included in my list.
