When looking for a certain term in a
certain language with Google, we have to go first to the page where we think
that we might find it. This can be a process that would make as spend a long
time on it and sometimes it can be a waste of time because our own language
might not be offered as a translation version of that page. The pages chosen to
go in for the process of searching the terms are the more important pages on
the subject which should be able to offer the user the possibility to find that
that he is searching for.
1.“European Monitoring Centre for Drugs
and Drug Addiction”

only the acronym is mention: OEDT. So, we haven´t achieved the
translation of the term into Spanish yet. In this page you
re given different choices on which to click. If you cklick on “Origenes y
Mandato” then, we get to achieve the translation of the term we were searching
for and which h name is the following:
Observatorio Europeo de la Droga y las Toxicomanías (OEDT)
This page is not available in any
other language. The fact that is European and internationally focused should
give non-English speakers the chance to have access to this information,
however, this is not the case. However, because António Vitorino
is the first European commissioner to be specifically responsible for justice
and home affairs and he is Portuguese, then, it is possible to get to obtain
the key words in this native language. By clicking on COMISIONER, we enter to a
section where some information about European Council of justice and Home
affairs is given by Antonio Vitorino. This information is available is
Portuguese, English and French. The Key words for the translation of the term
is found in the following paragraphs:

fundamentais, do crime organizado ao racismo e xenofobia.
"Justice and Home Affairs", as you can see, covers a whole panoply
of issues: from asylum to judicial cooperation, from immigration to fundamental
rights, from organised crime to racism and xenophobia.
Le secteur "justice et affaires intérieures" est,
comme on le voit, un domaine qui traite un vaste éventail de questions: du
droit d'asile à la coopération judiciaire, de l'immigration aux droits
fondamentaux, du crime organisé au racisme et à la xénophobie.
Since the page is not available in Spanish, then, we cannot
find the right translation of the term through this page. An International
web-page should offer the possibility to the users of having it translated into
their own language.
3.European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions

version.The translation of the term
can be found on the left hand-side at the top of the page in the shape of a
There is not a Spanish version of the page available here,
so it is not possible to find the equivalent Spanish term to the English “
European foundation for the improvement of living and working conditions”.

choose among. The page can be translated into the following: Castellano, Dansk,

useful when we are searching for terms. It gives the user the possibility of
obtaining what he might be looking for in an easy way. If the user is only
looking for specific terms in a different language, then Eurodicautom can avoid
all the extra-information that he doesn’t need and instantaneously give him the
This is the frame Eurodicatom operates with and which is
very simple to use. As we see, the user can chose the field he would like to
search for that term on to make it even simpler:
Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction”
European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug
Observatorio europeo de la droga y las toxicomanías
2.“European Council of Justice and Home Affairs”
This term is not offered as such
for its translation, but by choosin to different terms from the list we can get
to the right translation. The two terms are:
“cooperation in the fields of justice and home affairs”
(cooperación en los ámbitos de la justicia y de los asuntos de
interior)and “European Council mandate
on the Soviet Union” (mandato del Consejo Europeo sobre la Unión
Europeo de Justicia y Asuntos Internos/de Interior.
Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions”
Fundación Europea para le Mejora de las Condiciones de Vida y de
Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs
This term is much more difficult to find than the
previous ones. Among all the term- choices given we ca find some words that
might coincide, although not given in the same term. However, it could be rather
dangerous to do it because in order to solve this problem we would need to use
words from at least ten of the terms given and we can end up having a wrong
translation after all.
Register of the Council of the European Union
Among all terms there is not one that would be such.
The second part of the term is offered as a term in itself: Council of the European Union. And the
translation would be:
Consejo de la Unión Europea. So, we can’t find the right translation of the
whole term through this process.
EUDICATOM is much more appropriate than Google, when we are
only searching for terms. It gives the user the possibility of obtaining what
he might be looking for in an easy way. If the user is only looking for
specific terms in a different language, then Eurodicautom can avoid all the
extra information that you don’t need and instantaneously give you the answer.
For all the answers in Eurodicatom the process has been the same:
-Write the term for search in the Enter query.
-Type “English” in the Source Language.
-In subject I decided to type “any” in order
to get more information.
-Tick in “Spanish” in the Target Language.
-Tick “terms” in display.
However, it is better to make use of both. EUDICATOM is
good to use because it is easier and quicker for term-searching. However,
sometimes, we might not find what we are looking for in which case we can make
use of GOOGLE and go through the pages to look for the term.
