In this report I will be dealing with some official pages about the European Union and the possibilty of translating them not using any outsider Machie Translator but doing that within the page.
In Report B we saw how Machie Translators were not developed enough and in this Report C I will try to see how the pages cary from the original page to the translated one. I will try to find the original page, and not its translation, but its equivalent in Spanish.Anyway, a further analysis on this will be made in the introduction.
Nowadays Internet provides people with a huge number of pages where you can find any thing you want. In this project I was looking for pages of the European Union and after finding them I tried to find, not translations, but their equivalent pages in Spanish.
I tried to find the pages for: European Monitoring Centre for Drug Addiction, European Council of Justice and Home Affairs, European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditiond, Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs, and Public Register of the Council of the European Union.
For doing this, first of all I used www.google.com for searching pages in which the given topic appeared. After having the results of the search, I entered in the original page to see if it offered the possibily of reading it in a different language from the original.
Then I went to EURODICAUTOM and intruduced the same topic again. When the results appeared I copied the Spanish page in Google to find the page
In my opinion, it has been a very interesting report, becuase I had never work on EURODICAUTOM before. I was fascinated by how this searcher works, because you can directly choose in which languages would you like to find the page, which is something I had never seen before.
I am very surprised because it is very difficult to pages taht can be read in so many languages as you can do with the pages of the European Union.
I think that from now on I will use EURODICAUTOM when trying to find a translated page.
First of all, I used www.google.com to find the original page of this topic, and I found it. It is: www.emcdda.org.You can have this page translated from google before entering in it, but this page also offeres you the pissibility of reading the page in the following languages:
Then I used EURODICAUTOM searcher, and I found that I had two possibilities:
After finding the title of the article, I went to google again and tried to find the Spanish page. The result was: wwweuropa.eu.int/eur_lex/es/com/cnc/2002/com202_059901.pdf, which was the equivalent Spanish page.
I looked for this page in Google, but it has no Equivalent Spanish page. You only can read the page in English. Dispite this fact, you can have this page translated from Google before openning it. The page was: www.europaeu.int/comm/dgs/justice_home/index_es.htm
I tried the same page in EURODICATUM, and I found that the result was:
Then I wrote the Spanish title in google and I found the page: www.europa.eu.int/pol/justice/index_es.htm
I looked for this page in Google, and the result was: www.eurofound.ie. Despite the fact that you can translate this page using Google Translator, this page offers you the possiblity of reading the page in other language, but the problem is that you can only read it in French.
I tried then EURODICAUTOM, and the result was:
I tried this topic in Google, and I found it in the page: www.europa.eu.int/comm/employment_social/news/2002/dec/213_en.htmIf you go to the main page: www.europa.eu.intyou can read the page in:
After this, I tried this page in EURODICAUTOM and I found this page in English and in Spanish:
I tried this page in Google and I found the page: www.europa.eu.int/pol/health/index_en.htmThis page can be translated if you go to the main page: www.europa.eu.intinto:
The Spanish page was: "Actividades de la Union Europea y Salud Pública"
Then I tried it in UURODICATUM and I found the original version in English and its equivalent in Spanish:
The pages where you can read about this topic in Spanish were:
This project has been particularly interesting because through doing it, I have discover some interesting pages about the European Union and the way it works. I think that this pages are very interesting to be read because we all are European ans we should be interested in how this "community" deals with European policies and all that kind of things.
I can say that in general, European people will have no problem to read these pages, because they are offered in most of the European languages in most of the cases. If not, you always have the possibility of having it translated from google, which will provide a fair translation, which will serve to have a general idea about the topic you are searching information.
Another thing that could be taken into account is that in most of the cases, the given topics appear in the same page: www.europa.eu.int, a page that should be read because it is a very interesting one.
